Om Puri meets Chaudhry Shujaat, appreciates culture of Lahore

LAHORE: Veteran Indian film artiste Om Puri met Chaudhry Shujaat, the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid on Sunday and stated that artistes of both India and Pakistan are playing a major role in bringing the two countries closer to each other, DawnNews reported.

Puri said that Pakistanis exported love, which he will be taking along with him back to India.

He added that the windows of the two countries have opened and if the doors between them also unlock then citizens of both India and Pakistan will be able to meet each other more conveniently.

On the other hand, speaking to media outside the Lahore press Club, the versatile Indian actor, Puri said that Lahore is the hub of art which is the reason that despite visiting various countries he always had the urge to visit Lahore.

Furthermore, he stated that admirers of Pakistan are also encountered in India. Puri claimed that pessimists are found in every nation and overcoming such people is the responsibility of the government.

While complaining about the lack of leadership in India, Puri stated the Gujarati Muslims are content with BJP leader, Narender Modi.

The legendary actor also said that he did not receive any hostile reception while in Lahore and also appreciated the culture of the city.

While expressing his interest in Pakistani films, Puri said that if he was ever offered movies like ‘Khuda Key Liye’ and ‘Bol’ he will definitely opt for it.

It is the right direction Mr Puri is taking spreading the brotherly love between the people of both countries movie stars are always inspiration to the masses , hope will succeed unfortunately is a thereat to politicians on both sides , as their survival depends on feeding the venom of hatred .

@A C Rao: A C Rao, you seem to be an exception. Most Indians, especially the educated lot, hates Pakistan for hundreds of reasons. On the other hand, Pakistanis, particularly the educated ones, are very fair in their sentiments of India. People of both countries must shun the voices of animosity. Cultural exchanges are okay for the peace to take roots.

@observer: My friend, all Pakistani artists and singers are respected in india without any bias. I don't think any Indian hates common Pakistani citizen. Every sane person in india wants peace between India- Pakistan. Yes, there are large section of people in india having hatred against pakistan establishment but they have some valid reason. I am sure you will also start hating india if tomorrow india start supporting TTP.

@raja hindustani: Brother, problem lies in the fact that indian tv channels are allowed in Pakistan where as Pakistani Tv is totally forbidden in India. Indian media tells only one side of the story to its audience and people of india have no access to opposite point of view. An indian has it hard to believe that the evil things like Mumbai, are a two way thing. The war which started with division of the lands has never ended and has continued in peace times too. It is fought between the two military intelligence establishments and the victims have always been the innocent people who actually want peace. Let me give you an example to explain, when it was blown up in indian media that some pakistani soldiers had beheaded a indian jawan, a retired indian army chief of the past, interviewed in "The hindu" said that this beheading has been going on, on both sides since 1950s and its not a one sided crime, no other indian media told that to the people and went on to blow up the hatered. Similarly, pakistan's documented concerns about indian involvement in Balochistan have never been passed on to the indian public. I think crimes against humanity by both the establishments should be exposed equally to the public on both sides of the border. It will raise an unbiased conviction and public pressure to move in the right direction.

@raja hindustani: I am sorry but drawing a line between Pakistani establishment and common people is not fair. I was talking Pakistan as a country. My experience of dealing with Indians tells me the thing I said. I sincerely doubt that Pakistani actors and singers get pure respect in India. They get appreciation with a pinch of salt. There are scores of incidents to support this. Any how, I hope there is more trust in the relationship between the two countries. Cultural and entertainment people are a good hope to boost that.

We should discourage hatred at all levels. Neighbours are there to stay and if this point is taken care of there will be no animosity.In this age when old enemies are merging into unions and removing visa regimen, why we are creating hatred,supporting and funding terrorists. This results in ''activities'' in which ONLY innocent are suffering. India should behave like a big brother and offer every help to counter terrorism in Pakistan and Pakistan should accept such co operation if vit is genuine. A friend in need is a friend in deed.

Many Indian actors visit Pakistan, and enjoy their stays immensely. Yet the Indian media and extremist Hindus create fissures between the 2 neighboring countries which fuels ignorance in the Indian mindset. Mr. Puri is not the first to give positive feedback his visit to Lahore, nor will he be the last. Shabana Azmi, Shatrughan and Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi Chawla and many other famous Indian actors visit Pakistan regularly. How unfortunate that due to Indian media propaganda vilifying Pakistan, Indians get such a slanted one dimensional view of this awesome country created from the ravishes of British Independence.
