MARDAN: Three lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf from Mardan district have developed differences with own party’s government in the province over distribution of development funds.

Among them are Iftikhar Mashwani, Ubaid Mayar and Zahid Durrani.

Mr Mashwani told Dawn on Friday that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had discriminating against Mardan district by denying sufficient allocation of funds.

He said the people of Mardan had voted for PTI candidates in the May 2013 polls hoping the district would see massive development once the party formed the government but the hope had turned out to be false.

“Our district was intentionally ignored by our own government during the approval of developmental funds and schemes,” he said.

The MPA said the chief minister had given some PTI lawmakers Rs20 million as development funds , some Rs40 million and others Rs80 million.

He said his repeated requests to the chief minister for provision of appropriate funds had fallen on deaf ears.

“We’re told that since development projects valuing billions of rupees were carried out in the district by the last ANP government, local MPAs should not demand funds,” he said.

Mr Mashwani said he was unable to face voters over lack of development schemes.

“We’re in a difficult situation. On one hand, we’re accountable to people and on the other, our own government is giving us a cold shoulder on development funds,” he said.

The MPA said he along with Ubaid Mayar and Zahid Durrani had decided to boycott the PTI meetings and activities until reservations over the funds’ allocation were addressed.

He said four more MPAs had joined hands with his group.
