KARACHI: Ashraf Ali struck an unbeaten 105 to help Group ‘A’ leaders Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) pile up 386 in their first innings on day one of their fourth-round Patron’s Trophy (Grade-II) fixture against Pakistan Navy at the NBP Sports Complex here on Thursday.
Skipper Asif Zakir (70) and Awais Zia (73) were the main run-getters for SSGC who opted to bat first after winning the toss. Ashraf’s 119-ball knock contained nine fours and one six. Navy, in reply, stuttered to 27-2 in five overs.
Second-placed K-Electric, who are two points behind SSGC with a tally of 13, had a good day against Pakistan Customs at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground.
Customs were left to rue their decision to bat first as they were dismissed for 181 with leg-spinner Shahzaib Ahmed Khan grabbing seven wickets for 57.
K-Electric then reached 133-1 with Fakhar Zaman blasting an 88-ball 72 with 10 fours and a brace of sixes while dominating the opening stand of 118 with Behram Khan (41 not out).
Sindh Police rode on Sajid Khan’s century (128) to score 308 after choosing to bat first against the Saudi Cricket International at the Arabian Sea Country Club. Off-spinner Faisal Tahir took six for 120. Saudi Cricket International were 30-5 at stumps.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) posted 272 in their first innings after Dollar East elected to bowl first in the Group ‘B’ fixture at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. Upcoming left-hander Ali Sarfraz struck 73 studded with 11 boundaries, while opener Shoaib Khaliq made 52.
Paceman Rizwan Butt captured 5-76 before Dollar East reached 25-1 in reply.
Shahid Khan hit a fighting 140 (144 balls, 11 fours and two sixes) as Pakistan Army were all out for 235 after being asked to bat first by the Pakistan Education Board (PEB) at the Army Cricket Ground in Rawalpindi. The PEB were 3-1 in their reply.
At one stage, Army were reeling at 30-5 before Sanaullah (42) and Shahid put on 131 for the sixth wicket.
Captain Hafiz Majid Jahangir scored 118 (184 balls, 16 fours) to help Group ‘C’ toppers Omar Associates overcome a shaky start to total 317 after they sent in by the Punjab Text Book Board (PTBB) at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.
Mohammad Waqas hammered 88 while helping Majid add 190 for the third wicket.
The PTBB responded with 40-1.
The Karachi Port Trust amassed 357-6 in their allotted 83 overs after Fresh Face opted to field first in the other Group ‘C’ game at the Jinnah Stadium in Gujranwala. Shah Ali made 125 and Faraz Patel an undefeated 101 before Face Fresh collected 39-1.
The Sayid Paper Mills (SPM), who head Group ‘D’ with 30 points after three straight wins by innings, found going tough for a change as they were bundled out for 131 after opting to bat first against the Higher Education Commission (HEC) at the Stags Cricket Ground in Model Town area of Lahore.
Slow left-armer Ali Sultan Teepu, the HEC skipper, was SPM’s tormentor with six for 29 in 10.1 overs before scoring an unbeaten 58 to lift his side from a precarious 83-7 to 173-7. Suleman Ali Agha is batting on 57.
An unfinished partnership of 197 between opener Hasnain Bukhari (107 off 104 balls, 14 fours) and Yasir Ajmal (90 off 108, 11 fours) inspired hosts Khayaban-e-Amin to 222-2 after the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) were bowled out for 166.
Service were 165-4 after Medicam made 207 in their first innings at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.
