QUETTA: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has expressed concern over government’s refusal to allow right activists and media personnel to visit Balochistan’s Totak area where human bodies were found in unconventional graves.

A meeting of the HRCP presided over by its Balochistan chapter chairman Tahir Hussain Khan was held on Monday to review the situation of human rights violation in the province.

“Concerns and apprehensions of human rights organisations and civil society have increased after the discovery of mass graves in Totak and denial to these institutions to visit Totak and quake-hit areas of Awaran,” the meeting observed.

It regretted that the present government could not fulfil expectations of the masses during its eight-month rule and was running affairs like the previous government.

“There is no decline in the incidents of kidnapping for ransom and targeted and sectarian killings in Balochistan.”

The meeting also condemned the stoning to death of a woman and a man and two beggar women in Loralai.

Tahir Hussain said it was the responsibility of the provincial government to ensure access of the fact-finding commission, human rights organisations and media to Totak and Awaran so that they could prepare independent reports.
