SUKKUR, June 30: A Rs171.629 million budget with Rs3.1 million surplus for 2003-4 was presented at the Sukkur Taluka Council here the other day.

In his budget speech, Taluka Nazim Syed Kazim Ali Shah said that the income of the Taluka council was estimated at Rs171.629 million and expenditure at Rs168.187.

He said that the Taluka council was finding it hard to pay salaries to the employees therefore it was considering to enhance water tariff and other fees and impose some new taxes, including property and fire fighting tax.

He said that in the budget, Rs 99.023 million were allocated for salaries of the employees, Rs27.311 for emergency, Rs3.8 million for development works, Rs9.5 million for maintenance of the Taluka council property, Rs5 million for dues of salaries, pensions, gratuity and Rs3 million for miscellaneous expenditure.

He added that Rs10 million were allocated for payment of electricity bills, Rs702,4000 for purchase of medicines for the municipal dispensaries and Rs8 million for buying vehicles for streetlight maintenance..

The Nazim said that the Taluka council had to pay dues of Rs200 million to different companies.
