KOHAT: One patwari was killed and another injured when unknown assailants opened fire on them at the land revenue office in Hangu on Saturday.

Police said that two revenue officials (patwaris) were working in their office when unknown armed motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on them in Garhi bazaar. One of them Hasan Raza died on the spot, while Mujtaba sustained bullet injuries. Both were taken to Hangu district headquarters hospital.

The relatives and colleagues of the slain patwari placed the body of Hasan Raza in front of the Hangu Press Club and demanded arrest of the killers within 24 hours.

They also blocked the main Parachinar road for a few hours and. They chanted anti-government slogans and demanded transfer of the deputy commissioner.

The protesters asked the government to take immediate steps for controlling targeted killings in the district.

The Hangu city police have registered the case against unknown assailants.

The police, meanwhile, claimed to have arrested 61 suspicious people in an operation against terrorists on Saturday.

Of late, the Hangu district has witnessed suicide attacks, IED blasts and targeted killings by the militants descending from adjoining Orakzai Agency, but no clue to the attackers could be found in any case.

APPEAL: Parents of one Junaid Hussain, who suffered major damage to his arm in the crossfire between terrorists and police near the district courts, Kohat, on Sept 9, 2013, has appealed to the government for bearing his medical expenditure.

They said that Mr Junaid had received multiple injuries on his right arm and doctors in Peshawar were advising amputation of the affected part.

They said that doctors at a major hospital in Islamabad had, however, told them that treatment of Mr Junaid’s arm was possible, but it could cost them Rs1 million. Mr Junaid’s parents said that they had already sold their house and nobody was ready to borrow them Rs1 million for his treatment.
