KARACHI: History will be made next month when Sialkot will stage a two-day All Pakistan Mohammad Fazal Elahi Memorial Open Skeet Shooting Championship from March 8.

The event will be staged at Sialkot’s Cantt Shooting Range, vice-president of the National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) Razi Ahmed Khan said on Thursday. He said a local concern is sponsoring this maiden shooting event in Sialkot being held in the memory of his late father. “They are motivated by outstanding performances of an emerging local shooter Usman Chand,” he said.

Usman, rose to fame by winning triple gold in the skeet, trap and double trap events of the National Games held last year.

The Cantt range has the potential to become a good venue for shooting competitions in Pakistan. Razi, after inspecting facilities, said a handsome prize money of Rs 300,000 will be on offer for the winners.

“Any shooter achieving 25/25 score will get Rs10,000 each for his excellence,” he said.

Razi added that the winner of each event will get Rs50,000, runner-up Rs25,000 and third position holder will receive Rs15,000.

Individual skeet and team events will be contested during the championship.
