Religious scholar shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: A religious scholar was shot dead in Karachi's Nazimabad area on Thursday whereas three others were killed in separate incidents of violence in the city, DawnNews reported.

At least four unknown gunmen opened fire on a rickshaw near board office intersection in Nazimabad area of Karachi wounding Allama Taqi Hadi Naqvi.

He succumbed to his wounds while being shifted to the nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Renowned within the academic circles, Hadi was born in Moradabad area in Indian state of Sirsi and moved to Pakistan along with his family after the creation of Pakistan.

His father, Hakim Maulana Syed Mohammad Hadi, was also religious scholar.

Recently Allama Taqi Hadi Naqv was associated with the Jafria Disaster Cell (JDC)'s educational board.

In another incident, the administrator of a local madressah and his son were shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Sachal area of the city. The cook of the seminary was also wounded in the attack.

Fear and panic gripped the area after the incident whereas some enraged residents of the area resorted to stone-pelting and blocked roads in the locality.

The victims were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Moreover, police men belonging to Sachal and Mobina Town police stations locked horns with each other over the jurisdiction of the incident.

Another person was gunned down near Pakwan Centre in New Karachi area of the city.

Policemen described the incident as a targeted killing.

Meanwhile, a police officer suffered gunshot wounds during a scuffle with a colleague in the Police Quarters located behind the Orangi Town police station.

Moreover, Rangers personnel conducted targeted raids in Malir, Jauhar, Square, Orangi Town and Jumma Goth area of the city arresting 10 suspects, according to a spokesperson of the para-military force.

The spokesperson further said that the arrested suspects were members of outlawed organisations and involved in the city's gang-war.
