KOHAT: The Hangu police have arrested 17 suspects in a case concerning firing on a police vehicle in Doaba during an operation in the city and its surrounding areas.

A few days ago the Hangu police patrol car had come under fire in Doaba after which the police launched a search operation against suspicious people.

The police said that most of the suspects were Afghan refugees and questioned regarding the incident of attack on the police patrol. The Doaba police have registered cases against those suspects.

Also, the Kohat police have so far arrested 221 persons, including 42 proclaimed offenders, and recovered weapons from their possession in the ongoing search operation in the district. The seized weapons include three Kalashnikovs, 46 pistols, one shotgun and seven rifles besides 10kg hashish.

POWER OUTAGES: People of Shahpur town blocked the Shinokhel and Bannu bypass highway for over five hours the other day to protest against prolonged power loadshedding in their area.

The Shahpur town is located on the outskirts of Kohat city therefore the villagers came to the city and recorded their protest. They said that Pesco was resorting to loadshedding in their area from 7pm to 7am without any break, which was seriously affecting studies of their children.

They dispersed peacefully after assistant commissioner Farrukh Atique and Pesco officials assured them of resolution of their problem. —Correspondent
