KARACHI: Top cueists continued their winning spree in the sixth national junior under-21 snooker championship at Movenpick hotel arcade on Sunday.

Top seed and reigning national champion Hamza Akbar of Punjab notched up his second successive victory in group A while inflicting straight defeat on Sindh’s Mohammad Adil the scores being 107-14, 91-21, 53-3. He faces Saif Ali Khan of Balochistan in his third and last group fixture on Monday.

Defending champion Mohsin Amin, also of Punjab, survived a scare while getting the better of Balochistan’s Mohammad Ibrahim in fully stretched battle 3-2. The former was home 81-26, 75-24, 45-56, 42-56, 79-66.

Punjab’s Mohammad Majid Ali, who won silver for the country in the Asian under-21 snooker championship at Indore last year, removed Mohammad Kashif of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 83-13, 106-7, 82-38 to post second victory in group B.

The league matches concludes on Monday followed by knockout pre quarter-finals.
