Scams via SMS

Published February 13, 2014

WE have heard about bank robberies, thefts, street crimes, money laundering, embezzlement, corruption, murders, kidnapping for ransom, exortion and numerous other criminal acts of making money directly or indirectly.

I have been witness to a scam for the last one year. I received an SMS on my mobile phone stating that my number is registered for the ‘Benazir Income Support Programme’ beneficiaries and an amoubt of Rs25,000 has been approved for me.

The SMS further stated a number which I should contact to claim my share. It is a hoax aimed at goofing people to draw money from their pockets by trickery and misdemeanour.

I request the PTA and network providers to take stern action against the culprits and ensure protection against such means of extortion.
