ISLAMABAD, June 27: Wapda took a runaway lead on the opening day of the 12th National Junior Weightlifting Championship at the Pakistan Sports Complex.

Mohammad Usman (56kg), Abdul Razzaq (62kg) and Mati-ur-Rahman (69kg) won gold medals for Wapda while their only silver of the day came in the 77kgs category as they finished the day with 40 points.

Railways with one gold and two silver were in second place with 24 points while Punjab who had 20 were third.

Results (snatch, clean and jerk, total):

56kg category: Mohammad Usman (Wapda) 92.5, 117.5, 210; Javed Asghar (Railways) 90, 110, 200; Shoaib Butt (Punjab) 80, 100, 180.

62kg category: Abdul Razzaq (Wapda) 95, 130, 225, Ammad Asghar (Railways) 95, 127.5, 222.5, Shoaib Dhariwal (Punjab) 90, 90, 180.

69kg category: Mati-ur-Rahman (Wapda) 102.5, 135, 237.5; Sagheer Ahmed (Army) 100, 125, 225, Asif Yaqoob (Punjab) 92.5, 120, 212.5.

77kg category: Khurrum Shahzad (Railways) 130, 160, 290; Shamil Ali Butt (Wapda) 112.5, 150, 262.5; Kashif Butt (Punjab) 110, 140, 250.
