PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Eng Shaukatullah has said that only authoritative Fata Tribunal with effective rule can provide justice to tribal people.

He said that prompt steps would be taken to empower Fata Tribunal for expeditious justice. He added that the credibility of ineffective institutions became a question mark.

The governor said that all the relevant authorities should play effective role and adopt austerity measures to strengthen and empower Fata Tribunal so that tribal people could get timely justice.

He was chairing a meeting regarding the reforms and amendments in Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) at Governor’s House here on Thursday, said a handout.

The governor was briefed by the officials of Fata Secretariat. Besides Fata Law and Order Secretary Jamal Nasir, AI&C Secretary Syed Ameerud Din, Additional Secretary Ahmad Khan, Fata Tribunal Chairman Shah Wali Khan and Additional Secretary to Governor Mohamamd Dawood, other officials also attended the meeting.

The governor was also briefed on possible amendments in FCR while performance of Fata Tribunal was also reviewed in the meeting.

The officials informed the governor that Fata Tribunal was not facilitated and provided financial assistance since its inception and it was also facing impediments and constraints in its way of smooth working for the betterment of tribal people.

The governor was told that lack of funds, staff and proper infrastructure badly affected the performance of the tribunal.
