DADU, June 26: A large number of small growers held a demonstration outside the office of the SDO, Dadu irrigation sub-division, on Wednesday to protest against shortage of water in Jagir and lower Noor Wah waterways.
They were led by Rakhial Panhwar, Noor Ahmad Soomro and Mohammad Ramzan Shaikh.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Panhwar alleged that the local executive engineer of irrigation was selling water to influential landlords. He said watercourses were tampered with in the head of Jagir and lower Noor Wah waterways, originating from the Dadu Canal.
He said growers had approached the office of the executive engineer for their share of water but the official had not supplied water to tail-end areas.
The protesters appealed to the Sindh governor, chief minister and the minister for irrigation to take action against corrupt irrigation officials.
HESCO: Power consumers staged a rally in the Dadu town against Hesco officials after the SDO of Dadu sub-division-I disconnected over 200 illegal connections and issued inflated and detection bills to consumers on Wednesday.
Led by Citizens’ Action Committee president Javed Ahmad Ghaloo and councillors Lala Fahim and Bashir Ahmad Bhatti, the residents held demonstrations outside the local press club and the office of the executive engineer of Hesco, Dadu.
Talking to the protesters, Mr Ghaloo complained that Hesco officials were issuing detection and inflated bills to consumers.
On this occasion, Dadu Hesco executive engineer Ghulam Mustafa Soomro met a delegation of the protesters. He told them that he had constituted an 11-member committee of the residents and Hesco officers to resolve the problem. He said the committee would visit the area and check detection bills. He said the bills would be corrected and action would be taken against Hesco officials concerned. He said if any resident was found guilty, FIR of power theft would be lodged against him.
On his assurance, the consumers ended their protest.
POWER CUT: The SDO of sub-division-II, Dadu, Irshad Ahmad Memon, on Wednesday disconnected power supply to 15 villages of the Dadu taluka for nonpayment of bills.
