LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has said the current judicial infrastructure is inadequate to meet the requirements, especially in the district courts where more than 90 percent of the total litigation is pending.
He was addressing a gathering of lawyers and judges at the annual dinner hosted by outgoing body of the Lahore High Court Bar Association on Saturday.
Justice Jillani pointed out that there was an acute imbalance between the number of cases and the available judicial officers especially in Punjab. He further noted that dozens of judicial complexes in various districts were awaiting constructions for the last several years.
The CJP said the country was passing through a challenging stage of the legal history, however, the judiciary would continue endeavouring to play its role without fear or favour.
Justice Jillani said a monumental struggle was undertaken by the lawyers for the restoration of democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law.
He said the support and cooperation of the bar associations and its members were critical to achieve objectives of judicial system.
He said the bench and the bar must work together to ensure efficient, effective and prompt adjudication to meet expectations of the people.
LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and LHCBA President Abid Saqi also spoke.
