CHARSADDA/NOWSHERA: Unidentified militants targeted a police van and a Frontier Constabulary vehicle in different areas of Shabqadar in Charsadda district on Friday night and Saturday.

However, no damage to human life was reported in the bomb attacks.

Police said a patrol van of Saro police station of Shabqadar was targeted on Friday night by a remote-controlled explosive device.

They said the blast damaged the van and some shops in Pir Qala area.

Police also said a vehicle, which was part of an FC convoy, was attacked with an explosive device on Matta Road in Shabqadar on Saturday.

They said the vehicle was partially damaged in the attack, while the FC personnel remained unhurt.

The bomb disposal squad said two kilograms of explosive devices were used in the two attacks.

In Nowshera, a bomb explosion damaged a police vehicle near Azakhel area on Saturday.

The explosion partially damaged the vehicle but the personnel riding it remained unhurt, sources said.

The explosion took place on GT Road in Janabad area when unidentified militants tried to target a police mobile van by an improvised explosive device.

After collecting evidence from the site of the blast, the bomb disposal squad said around 300 grammes explosives and ball bearings in the blast.

“It’s an IED, which was planted to target policemen,” said Turk Ali Shah, spokesperson for Nowshera police.

SHO of Azakhel police station confirmed the blast and said police had begun a search operation in the area to arrest the culprits.

He said after the registration of a case, investigation had got underway.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed allegedly by her brother in Tangi area of Charsadda on Saturday.

Shandar told police that his daughter, Jasmeen, had been living with him for four months after her relationship with husband turned sour.

He said her daughter exchanged harsh words with brother Sajid over a domestic dispute on Saturday and thereafter, the latter gunned down her.

The Tangi police registered a case against Sajid and began investigation.

However, the alleged killer was not arrested by night.

Meanwhile, JUI-F MNA from Charsadda Maulana Gohar Shah on Saturday welcomed the government’s initiative to hold talks with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and demanded involvement of noted political and tribal leaders in the peace process.

He told Dawn that foreign forces had begun carrying out terrorist activities in the country to achieve their vested interests, which only resulted in the killing of innocent people.

The MNA said it was the first time that the government had taken a serious step by forming the negotiation team to hold talks with the TTP.

He said the nation looked satisfied with the government’s initiative hoping that it would bring durable peace in the region.
