THATTA: 400 growers given land

THATTA, June 26: As many as 8,000 acres of agricultural land were distributed among 400 growers in the Thatta district on Wednesday.

The district officer, revenue, Ghulam Qambar Panhwar, after scrutiny of applications in an open kutchehry, distributed the land. A total of 800 applications were received for proprietary rights of lands. Preference was given to those growers who were already in possession of lands on ten-year lease.

Meanwhile, Jhampir union council Nazim Ghulam Rasool Shoro and Ongar union council Nazim Ghulam Nabi Babar complained that thousands of acres in Makan Jhap Chashma Werh, Liyari, Bambri and Bolhari were allotted to people belonging to Hyderabad, Dadu, Karachi and Badin districts. They demanded cancellation of such allotments. They said it should be ensured that only local people were allotted lands in future.

APOLOGY: Former Sujawal SHO Rashid Serai, ASI Hadi Bux and constables Arshad and Ghulam Mohammad Khaskheli tendered apology in the court of the district and sessions judge here on Thursday.

The officials submitted their written apology in a contempt of court application, moved by advocate Rehana Leghari, a local leader of People’s Party Parliamentarians.

She had alleged in her application that despite pre-arrest bail, the police officials illegally confined her and her brothers at the Sujawal police station. She said she was also deprived of valuables.

Meanwhile, the ASP of Thatta, Nasir Virk, was assigned to hold an inquiry into the matter.

BUDGET: The Thatta taluka council presented its budget of Rs425 million for the year 2003-2004 here on Thursday.

No new tax was proposed in the budget.

The session was presided over by convener Khair Mohammad Brohi.

An amount of Rs17.6 million was earmarked for development schemes, Rs16.6 million for salaries of employees and Rs7 million for water supply.
