QUETTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s brief visit to the provincial capital caused a massive traffic jam on Thursday.

All roads leading to the Governor’s House and cantonment area remained closed for traffic for several hours, causing immense hardship to commuters.

Buses carrying passengers from Pishin, Kuchlak, Sumangli and the city’s outskirts were stopped at the railway crossing near Shahbaz town and passengers were asked to walk to their destinations. Busses were denied entry into the city.

People experienced worst traffic jams on Joint Road, Brewery Road, Prince Road, Sariab Road and main Jinnah Road.

Heavy contingents of police, Frontier Corps, ATF and Balochistan Constabulary were deployed on all important roads leading to the Governor House and Quetta cantonment. Aerial monitoring added to the security as helicopters kept buzzing all around.

The situation improved only after the prime minister and federal ministers left the city.
