LAHORE: The Balochistan government plans to replicate in its capital Quetta the solid waste management system running in Lahore.

A three-member delegation from Balochistan would be visiting the city from Monday (today) to get details of the functioning of its improved solid waste management system, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) spokesperson said on Sunday.

Headed by Balochistan’s local government minister Sardar Mustafa Khan Tareen and comprising concerned Secretary Kazim Niaz and Quetta Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Hashim Ghulzai.

The delegation, during its three-day stay in the city, would meet the Punjab chief secretary, the local government secretary, LWMC managing director and the chief executive officer (urban unit), besides heads of Turkish contractors and other waste management experts.

The delegation members would also visit LWMC’s offices, facilities, Mehmood Booti dumpsite, under-construction sanitary landfill site at Lakhodair, RDF plant and workshops and watch the day-and-night operations of the company including mechanical sweeping and washing, door-to-door waste collection, its transportation and dumping.
