KARACHI: Mujibur Rahman, the district president of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Karachi, DawnNews reported.

He was gunned down near his residence on Friday. His body was shifted to the city’s Jinnah Hospital where a large number of his workers had gathered.

Meanwhile, a police mobile was targeted with a hand-grenade near Karachi’s Essa Nagri area. Subsequently one policeman sustained injuries in the attack.

According to the police, the attack was followed by aerial firing. Following the attack, police personnel detained three suspects.

Moreover, one person was injured due to firing near the city's Agra Taj area.

Separately, Rangers personnel arrested seven suspects during a targeted operation in Baldia Town, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Lasbela Chowk, Dhobi Ghat as well as other areas.

According to a Rangers’ spokesman, a large number of hand-grenades and ammunition were recovered from the arrested suspects.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism. Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.
