KARACHI: Up and coming Shazil Malik cruised into the last eight in under-13 singles of the ranking tennis championship at Union Club courts on Sunday.

Playing with confidence, Shazil sent his opponent Sharan Siddiqui packing 6-2, 6-2 and now drawn to meet fourth seed Noor-e-Mustafa in the quarters. The latter has got a bye in the first round.

Sahibzada Mohammad Ali and Dawar Rehan also propelled into juniors under-17 quarters. The former swept aside Ebad Sarwar 6-0, 6-3 while the latter inflicted 6-0, 6-2 defeat on Hasan Aamir in their first round matches.

The men’s singles, under-17, under-15 and under-13 have a draw of 16. As many as 12 players apiece have entered in the above categories with top four getting a first round bye.

Men’s singles:

First round: Saqib Jadoon bt Abid Khan 6-2, 6-0; Abdullah Khan bt Mohammad Taimoor 6-1, 6-0; Salman Ahmed bt Ali Raza 6-3, 6-2.

Quarter-finals: Ibrahim Iltifat bt Saqib Jadoon 6-2, 6-4.

Juniors’ under-17 singles:

First round: Sahibzada Mohammad Ali bt Ebad Sarwar 6-0, 6-3; Dawar Rehan bt Hasan Aamir 6-0, 6-2.

Under-15 singles: First round: Bilal Imran bt Mohammad Ahmed 6-3, 7-5; Hania Naveed bt Sharan Siddiqui 6-1, 6-1.

Under-13 singles:

First round: Shazil Malik bt Sharan Siddiqui 6-2, 6-2; Amin Shafi bt Abdullah Ahmadani (walkover).

Under-9 singles:

Round robin: Saim Danish bt M. Ahmed Ahmadani 8-0.
