KOHAT: The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) will be observed today (Tuesday) like other parts of the country.

Earlier, the event in the district took place Safar 25 in line with the 1986 Junejo-Moosvi peace agreement, which emerged in the wake bloody clashes between Sunni and Shia communities.

However, this year, the district administration held talks with the Sunni and Shia leaders and convinced them about the Chehlum observance on Tuesday like other parts of the country for security reasons.

The two sides signed an agreement with the administration in this respect at the Commissioner’s House here on Monday.

Javed Ibrahim Paracha represented Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat and former Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ibne Ali the Shia community during talks with Commissioner of Kohat division Jalaluddin.

The commissioner expressed the hope that members of both Sunni and Shia communities would strictly follow the agreement to ensure peace in the district.

He said the administration would protect public life and property, especially the places of worship and Chehlum processions.

Meanwhile, the administration announced a public holiday for today (Tuesday) while putting the army on high alert.
