ISLAMABAD: The panel of legal experts defending former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf against treason charges on Saturday decided in principle to challenge the July 31, 2009 verdict.

A review petition is expected to be filed before the Supreme Court by Advocate Mohammad Ibrahim Satti on behalf of Gen Musharraf on Monday, an informed source privy to the development told Dawn.

The decision to file the review petition was taken during a consultative meeting also attended by Gen Musharraf.

Though belated, the petition will challenge the judgment in which a 14-judge bench headed by then chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry declared unconstitutional and illegal Gen Musharraf’s second coup through Emergency Order of November 3, 2007, and most of the actions taken under it, including the appointment of over 100 superior court judges.
