KARACHI: Hosts Karachi and defending champions Sukkur got off to a sterling start on the opening day of the third NBP Sindh Women’s Hockey Championship at the Hockey Club of Pakistan here on Thursday.

Uzma Lal banged a hat-trick as Karachi hammered Mirpurkhas 14-0. Captain Anila Khan, Mehreen and Zakia scored two goals apiece for the winners.

Meanwhile, Sukkur in the other match of the day blanked Larkana 5-0.

Sanama, Fazila, Parveen, Sumiya and Mariam netted one goal each.

President of the Pakistan Women’s Hockey Association (PWHA) Khushbakht Shujaat said she would be giving hockey sticks to 100 players in order to promote hockey among womenfolk.

She disclosed that the Netherlands women’s team would visit Pakistan at the invitation of PWHA.—APP
