KARACHI: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) outclassed Pakistan Television (PTV) by innings on Monday to keep pace with the President’s Trophy leaders Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).

Wapda, who won the sixth-round fixture by an innings and 137 runs at the LCCA Ground in Lahore, moved into third place with 22 points with defending champions SNGPL (46) leading the standings. National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) are second with a tally of 30 points with a game in hand.

Resuming the fourth and final day, PTV added 97 more runs to their overnight score of 172-3. All-rounder Yasim Murtaza emerged as the highest scorer with 69 off 136 balls. He hit seven boundaries and one six.

Lanky left-arm paceman Sarfraz Ahmed captured four of the seven wickets falling on Monday to finish with five for 93 and a match bag of nine for 113. Spinner Asif Ali took three for 61 in 27 overs.

SNGPL chalked up their fifth victory in the championship when State Bank of Pakistan lost by 109 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

SBP, who were 81-1 at start of play, were dismissed 216. Left-arm paceman Samiullah Khan Niazi grabbed his second four-for of the match by claiming four for 66 in the second innings to end up with fine match figures of eight for 100. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah snared three for 46.

Wapda’s wicket-keeper Ahmed Said had eight dismissals to his name, including one stumping.

NBP, meanwhile, drew with Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) after there was no play throughout Monday at the Iqbal Stadium because of heavy rain in Faisalabad. KRL took three points from this game to go fourth in the standings with 22 points.

In matches ending on Sunday, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) outgunned Port Qasim Authority (PQA) by an innings and 60 runs at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot to record their first victory, while United Bank Limited (UBL) scored a six-wicket win over Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) at the Marghazar Cricket Ground in Islamabad.

All teams who competed in this round face each other in the President’s Cup one-day tournament on Wednesday. The next round of fixtures in the President’s Trophy first-class tournament begins from Saturday.
