CHARSADDA/PESHAWAR, Dec 13: Suspected militants on Friday morning attacked a police checkpost in Shabqadar area of Charsadda district with heavy weapons.

However, policemen manning the post repulsed the attack.

The militants, who attacked the Haleemzai police checkpost at 2:30am, fled benefiting from the darkness.

No damage to public life was reported in the attack. However, a police mobile van was damaged.

Charsadda DPO Shafiullah Khan said all entry and exit points of the district had been sealed, while a search operation had launched to arrest attackers.

He said the police’s morale was high and attacks won’t demoralise them.

Mr Shafiullah said miscreants were on the run in the district due to the effective crackdown of police.

MAN, DAUGHTER KILLED: Also in the day, two families traded fire in Attkay area of Shabqadar killing a man and his daughter and injuring three brothers.

The incident took place over a dispute of children.

Sahir and Syed Mehmood had heated exchanges after their children quarreled.

Sahir and many armed men stormed the house of Syed Mehmood and gunned down him and daughter Mukhtiara.

The firing also left Syed Mehmood’s sons, including Gul Nawab, Syed Nawab and Amir, injured.

The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar in critical condition.

The assailants fled before police turned up.

Police lodged an FIR and raided several places to arrest the accused.

TRADER RECOVERED, ONE KILLED: Peshawar police recovered a kidnapped Afghan trader after an encounter near University Road, which left an alleged abductor dead on Friday evening.

According to an official of the cantonment circle, cloth merchant Azeem Khan was kidnapped from Hayatabad on Oct 11 and the kidnappers had demanded $0.5 million for his release.

He said police raided the house of a doctor near Arbab Road along University Road in the provincial capital after receiving a tip-off that the kidnapped person had been kept there.

The official said during the raid, police exchanged fire with kidnappers leaving one of the latter dead.

He said police arrested another kidnapper and recovered the Afghan trader.

Police didn’t register a case of the kidnapping by Friday night.

BOMB BLAST: An improvised explosive device went off outside a house in Peshtakhara Payan area on Friday morning causing part of the building.

However, no damage to human life was reported.

Owner of the house Sheharyar Khan told police that he had no enmity with anyone.

A police official said footage of a CCTV camera installed in the area showed two motorcyclists planting the IED outside the house.

He said a case had been registered against unidentified terrorists.

He, however, said no arrests had been made until night.
