ISLAMABAD, Jun 17: Raana Rahim has been appointed Ambassador to Turkmenistan in place of Babar W. Malik who has been appointed High Commissioner to Australia.

Raana Rahim, born in November 7, 1953, holds a Master’s Degree in History and diploma in International Relations (IIAP- Paris).

She joined Foreign Service in 1978 and also held diplomatic assignments in Pakistan missions at Paris (1985-87) and Dubai (1998-2001).

She served at the headquarters as section officer and director.

Currently she is serving as Consul General at Los Angeles since July 2001.

Ms Rahim will soon take her new assignment in Turkmenistan.

Meanwhile Babar W. Malik, who is currently serving as Ambassador to Turkmenistan since 1998, joined Foreign Services in October 1973. He has held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan missions at Mexico (1974-75), Rabat (1975-78), Washington (1986-91), and Cairo (1991-95).

Mr Malik has also served at the headquarters on various positions.—APP
