KARACHI, June 15: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan directed the officers of education department to resolve the problems of ‘adopted schools’ on priority basis, saying that it was unjust that the money spent on these institutions was not benefiting the students.

During Mr Khan’s visit to the Girls Secondary School, Chennesar Goth, the patron of the school Mrs Ali Habib told him that 400 girls were being imparted education at the institution.

She said her foundation had spent Rs400,000 on improvement of the school, complaining that the school administration was facing some problems regarding the government.

The Nazim directed the EDO, Anwer Ahmad Zai, to present a report in this regard within 10 days.

He directed the officials concerned to ensure the lifting of debris and garbage from within and around the school premises.

He also emphasised on 100 per cent attendance of teachers, asking the concerned officers to take action against absent and irregular employees.

Later, during Nazim’s visit to the girls and boys schools in Mehmoodabad, he was told that in spite of presence of five school buildings, in the area, where only 20 students were enrolled, another building was being constructed at a playground, which was described as wastage of government funds, and a blow to already scarce recreational facilities for the children of the area.

After looking in to the matter, the Nazim ordered to stop the construction work and sought a report from the EDO (Works) in this regard. He also ordered that the schools be given to Aliya Habib for adoption as she had already placed an application in this regard.—PPI/APP
