KARACHI, June 12: The Sindh High Court asked the traffic police on Thursday not to permit any unauthorized vehicle to pick or drop passengers at bus stops.
The direction came on a suit instituted by a coach service, alleging that its vehicles were not being allowed to use a bus stop at Al Karam square, Liaquatabad, while unauthorized buses plying in the city were freely using the facilities meant for licensed transporters.
Justice Shabbir Ahmed, who heard the suit, passed the interim order and directed that notices be issued to the respondent traffic police and the SHO of Liaquatabad.
DETENTION: A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Mushir Alam, issued notices to the home secretary and the inspector-general of police in a petition alleging illegal detention of a PML-Q worker. Sajid Ahmad alias Sajid Tanki alleged that he was first arrested by the Brigade police on May 21 in a false case involving breach of peace. He obtained bail in the case but was detained under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance for a month on May 22.
Appearing for the petitioner, Advocate Rizwan H. Nadeem submitted that the detention order was mala fide as it was intended to prevent Sajid Tanki from participating in the NA-255 election campaign.
