KARACHI, June 9: Work on the Askari Park, a modern recreational facility to be constructed by the Pakistan Army, on the site of old vegetable market in the city, will be initiated from July 1.

At a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House, different aspects of the project, which was being undertaken by 5 Corps of army, were reviewed.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar, Corps Commander Lt Gen Tariq Wasim Ghazi, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Advisor Home, Aftab Shaikh, Chief Secretary Dr Muttawakal Qazi, Additional Advocate General Qazi Khalid, Principal Secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, IG Police Syed Kamal Shah, Additional Chief Secretary Ghulam Sarwar Khero, Secretary to Chief Minister Ghulam Mustafa Qazi and some other senior officials attended the meeting.

Sindh governor ordered the formation of two separate committees, led by chief secretary and DCO Karachi, respectively, to deal the matters pertaining to the construction of the park.

He said establishment of the park would be in the best interest of the citizens, besides being a beautiful addition to the city’s parks.

He asked the city administration to work efficiently for timely completion of the park.

Lt Gen Ghazi said that the park would be among the most modern recreational facilities available to public in the country.

The governor said after the Bagh-e-Quaid-e-Azam, the Askari Park was another gift from the Pakistan Army for people of the city. He said engineers and jawans of the army were willing to complete the project at the earliest, however he stressed that local administration should also play its role in that regard.—PPI
