KARACHI, Oct 31: Veteran Davis Cupper Rashid Malik is the only notable player who has entered in the Pakistan seniors’ world ranking tennis championship being staged at the Karachi Gymkhana courts from Nov 16 to 22.

The Lahore-based player has been a frequent participant in the annual event from the upcountry and his appearance makes the competition lively.

Surprisingly, most of the big names of the yesteryears like brothers Inam-ul-Haq and Hameed-ul-Haq, Mushaf Zia, M. Khalid, M. Khaliq, all former Davis Cuppers to name a few, have not entered in the fray which may snatch its charm.

According to the organisers, two foreigners — Kandel Bert of England and Andreo Shalakdze of Georgia — have also entered in the event.

This time, no player from India has shown his willingness to compete as the deadline for submission of entries in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) world ranking category four event expired on Oct 25.

Shehzad Akhtar Alvi, an ITF qualified referee, has been nominated to supervise the event.
