ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry condemning Wednesday's drone attack in Miramshah said in a statement on Thursday that the strikes were against the sovereignty of Pakistan, DawnNews reported.

He was speaking at the weekly media briefing by the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

He added that drone strikes were negatively affecting the war against terrorism, stating that they were hindering the peace and stability process in the region.

Chaudhry moreover said that drone strikes were creating friction in the relationship between Pakistan and the United States (US), adding that innocent civilians were killed by these strikes.

The Foreign Office spokesman said the attacks by drones violated Pakistan's geographical boundaries and also violated basic human rights.

Wednesday's drone strike in North Waziristan's tribal region resulted in the deaths of three suspected militants and injured three others. Sources state that the number of casualties is likely to increase.

Referring to the release of top Afghan Taliban commander Mullah Baradar, he stated the decision had been made by the Pakistani government on the request of the Aghan government.

With regards to recent claims by the Afghan Taliban stating that Baradar had not been released and was in fact still being held in Pakistan, Chaudhry added that the release had been in the hopes of strengthening the peace process and Baradar was free to move around at his will.
