GHALANAI, Sept 25: Taliban attacked the under-construction Gandao dam in Mohmand area and killed three workers and kidnapped at least two others on late Tuesday night. They also set bulldozers, tractors, power generators and other things on fire.

TTP’s Mohmand Agency spokesman Umar Khurasani called the Mohmand Press Club and claimed responsibility of the attack.

Officials said the militants had kidnapped engineer Zulfiqar, a resident of Swabi working on the dam, and a worker.

Hearing the news of the attack, contractor Shakoor Khan tried to reach the project site along with nine other workers, but his vehicle was hit by a bomb planted by militants.

The blast killed the contractor, driver Itebar Khan and engineer Fazle Ghani.

The injured were identified as Jan Ayaz, Abdul Hafeez, Abdul Samad, Gul Ahmad, Haji Shaukat Ali and Attaullah.

After the incident, security forces launched a search in the area and arrested dozens of tribesmen under the collective responsibility clause of the FCR.

Agencies add: The dam site was attacked by around a dozen gunmen. A security official confirmed the attack, but put the number of people kidnapped at four.
