LARKANA, Sept 19: The paramedical staff association of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) called off their two and a half months token strike after the commissioner and the deputy commissioner of Larkana accompanied by vice chancellor of the university Akbar Haidar Soomro met them on Thursday and assured the protesters of resolving their problems.

A source privy to the parleys said that in all 14 demands of paramedics were accepted by the management. They included deceased employees’ quota, recruitment under employees’ sons’ quota, encashment leave, two step promotions, allotment of land to build a housing colony for employees and 10 per cent increment in salaries.

Larkana Commissioner Mr Mangnejo had to intervene when the VC and the employees union were reluctant to negotiate with each other and situation at the campus was getting out of hand.
