MITHI, Sept 18: A stakeholders’ consultation on a Thari women project was organised on Wednesday in the Tharparkar auditorium of the Mithi Press Club.

The gathering was organised by the Society for Conservation and Protection of Environment (SCOPE) in collaboration with Bioclimate UK and was attended by representatives of various NGOs, civil society activists, social workers, journalists and government officials.

Speaking on the occasion, SCOPE chief Tanvir Arif said that the Thari women project aimed to improve the socio-economic conditions of around 2,000 women living across 13 scheduled-caste villages in the Thar desert.

He said that the project aimed to improve everyday family nutrition of these women by helping them earn money.

He said that SCOPE also planned to plant Gulgan trees in Nagarparkar under the project ‘Payment for ecosystem service’ which is funded by the Bioclimate UK.

Ester Robb of the Bioclimate UK said that the organisation had been collaborating with around 17 countries and had helped 256 community groups to improve their socio-economic conditions through sustainable development.
