KARACHI: The Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of Judges to Superior Courts on Friday unanimously okayed the nomination of Sindh High Court’s current chief justice, Justice Mushir Alam, as a judge of the Supreme Court, DawnNews reported.

The post of SHC chief justice would be handed over to Justice Maqbool Baqar, who was recently badly injured in a terrorist attack in Karachi, Sindh’s provincial capital.

The committee for judges’ appointment, headed by Raja Zafarul Haq, has also requested that six additional judges of the Lahore High Court be made permanent. These include Justices Abdul Sami Khan, Abdur Rahman, Shujat Ali Khan, Aisha A. Malik, Shahid Waheed and Ali Baqir Najfi.

The committee expressed satisfaction with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) reports submitted on the judges’ assets.
