KARACHI, May 29: Criticizing the demolition of Baitul Hamza, the secretary general of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement said on Thursday that a police state had been imposed on the people of Karachi in a seemingly democratic period.

In a statement, Amir Khan said the law-enforcement agencies were busy in raiding the homes of his party’s workers, and harassing their families, in an effort to arrest as many of them as possible.

The president had given a free hand to the “terrorists” to safeguard his own position, claimed the MQM’s secretary general. As a result, the “terrorists” in league with the police were subjecting the people of Karachi to “state terrorism”.

The demolition of Baitul Hamza did not represent the end of the MQM-H, he added. “The bad precedent set by the demolition of Baitul Hamza meant that things will come to a boil.”

DEMOLITION CRITICIZED: A leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and member of National Assembly Abdus Sattar Afghani said celebrating the demolition of Baitul Hamza was not a good omen as there was a reaction for every action, adds PPI.

He was addressing a large public meeting which was organized by Shabab-i-Mill.

MMA’s candidate for NA-255, Muhammad Aslam Mujahid, said the alliance would smash the “idols of sectarianism and extremism” on June 22.

On the occasion the elite of the Kalanjar clan, Arain clan and Awan clan also demonstrated their support for the MMA’s candidate in the coming by-elections.

Meanwhile, Nisar Khuhro also criticized the demolition of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement’s headquarters.
