ISLAMABAD, Aug 30: A motorcyclist and his pillion passenger ended up arranging Rs30,000 surety bonds each for bail after they attempted to pay Rs100 as bribe to a traffic police officer.
According to details, assistant Sub-Inspector Khan Baig, deployed at Highway Chowk, spotted two persons on a motorcycle violating lane, investigation officer of the case ASI Mian Imran said.
The ASI intercepted the motorcyclists and asked for their licences to issue fine ticket, he said, adding, that but they started tendering apology.
Later when he refused to set them free the pillion rider retrieved Rs100 from his pocket and tried to bribe the ASI, who brought the matter in the notice of his seniors, who asked him to initiate legal action against them.
Later Aabpara police were informed and ASI Mian Imran reached the spot and took the motorcyclist into police custody and shifted them to police station.
A case was registered against them under PPCs 214 and 279 in response to a complaint lodged by ASI Baig.
ASI Imran further said that the accused were later shifted to the court of area magistrate from where they were released on bail as they were booked under bailable offence. The judge ordered them to submit surety bonds worth Rs30,000 each for their bail which they obeyed, he added.
The police will submit the challan in the case on Monday in the court and next hearing of it is fixed on September 12, ASI Imran added.
The Rs100 note and motorcycle was in police custody as evidences, he said, adding, that the minimum punishment to offer bribe to civil servant was two years.
