MINGORA, Aug 26: Deputy commissioner of Swat Imtiaz Hussain on Monday imposed ban on storage of old tyres in the city for a month.

The step is part of the administration’s efforts to contain dengue in the district.

In a statement issued here, the deputy commissioner said there would be a complete ban on storage of old tyres within the city.

Also, it is learned that health experts from Punjab will visit Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital tomorrow (Wednesday) to provide technical assistance to doctors on dengue diagnosis and treatment.

Sources said the hospital had used 300 screening kits and more kits would soon reach there from the director general (health services) offices to ensure uninterrupted diagnosis and treatment dengue patients.

Meanwhile, local officials said the weather would turn cold after a month and thus, destroying the mosquito larva causing dengue.

They said the mosquito larva couldn’t survive if the temperature dropped below 16 degree centigrade.

The officials said the ongoing public awareness campaign had alerted the people to the dengue threat.

They said the people could prevent dengue by avoiding water storage in open pots and using nets at night.

The officials said the mosquito causing dengue bred in clean water and bit the people after sunset.

Meanwhile, the administration has yet to carry out anti-mosquito spray in Mingora city and adjoining areas.
