PCB calls Adnan Akmal for Zimbabwe tour

LAHORE: Pakistan's wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal was given a green light and instructed on Wednesday to remain on stand-by to participate in the forthcoming Zimbabwe tour by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in place of Sarfraz Ahmed, DawnNews reported.

Sarfaraz, who will be unable to go to Zimbabwe due to visa issues, was chosen for the job after senior wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal faced the axe for his recent spate of poor performances and his younger brother Umar was dropped over a mysterious injury.

Sources said that Adnan would soon depart for Zimbabwe.

Adnan has not yet played any Twenty20 Internationals and has participated in just five ODIs between September 2011 and February 2012.

Meanwhile, Umar Akmal, who performed well both with the bat and gloves during the tour of the Caribbean, practiced at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on Tuesday in a bid to prove that he is fit enough to participate in Zimbabwe.

This is strange. Pakistani Cricketer did not get Visa for Zimbabwe. Player already travelled South Africa and other places. Did PCB really wants to send him? Karachi born Sarfraz Ahmed was a Captain of Under 19 cricket team who won world cup for Pakistan in 2006. In last 7 years he was given chance only in 4 tests (in & Out). 23 One Days and two T20s. Recently Pakistan cricket board called Karachi born Khurrum Manzoor after three years, The gutsy right-handed opener scored a fighting 77 against Australia in Hobart Test in January 2010, after which he was ignored by selectors apparently for no valid reason.

Pakistan should have one regular wicket keeper rather changing every now and then. Few years back Pakistan team was unbeatable by any team, look at now, seems to be an ordinary team. They need a good intelligent performing captain like Imean Khan or Wasim Akram, then only they can improve otherwise I doubt they will qualify for semi final 2015 world cup, anyway good luck to them...n wishes.

Can we not get another keeper besides the Akmals. This is a good time to try younger talent. Are you telling me that besides the Akmals and Sarfraz we do not have a Keeper/batsman in the entire Pakistan, population of approx 200 Million. This is just ridiculous!!!!
