KARACHI, Aug 13: As part of Independence Day celebrations, walks were organised at the neighbouring institutions of higher education, Karachi University and the NED University of Engineering and Technology, on Tuesday.

Waving national flags a large number of students led by the KU vice chancellor and faculty marched from the university post office to the ground in front of the university’s central cafeteria. The event was arranged by the university students’ adviser office.

“Pakistan came into being after a great struggle and sacrifices. Unfortunately, the nation of this great country has become an easy target of terrorist elements in recent years,” said VC Prof Dr Mohammad Qaiser while addressing the participants.

Pinning hope on the youth, the vice chancellor said that the young dynamic individuals proving their mettle in different fields were a hope that the country would be out of the crises one day.

“You can make it difficult for the negative forces to succeed. The need of the day is to mobilize the youth of Pakistan especially those who are studying in universities as they have a broader vision and can formulate a strategy that can put the country on the road to success,” he said.

He urged students to excel in education as, he said, it was the only weapon that could help face challenges of the modern world.

The vice chancellor was accompanied by the university registrar, deans, faculty members, the student adviser and campus security adviser.

A cake-cutting ceremony and a recital of the national anthem followed the vice chancellor’s speech.

Meanwhile, students at the NED University of Engineering and Technology also organised a walk on the campus in connection with Independence Day.

A flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at both the universities today (Wednesday).

The ceremony at Karachi University will begin at 8:50am with recitation of the Holy Quran.

The flag hoisting at the NED University will be performed at 8:55am by Prof Dr Muzaffar Mahmood.
