QUETTA, May 25: Power supply to Balochistan could not be restored from 220 KV Sibi-Guddu double circuit transmission line as six towers fell down due to heavy rains and thunderstorm in Nasirabad division, on Sunday.

The storm hit the area rooting out a large number of trees and damaging the houses and communication installations including transmission line towers, supplying electricity to the entire province from the National Grid Station, Guddu.

Replacing the towers and repair work was not carried out on Sunday as the area where transmission line towers fell was under flood water.

A spokesman of Quetta Electricity Supply Company told Dawn that the Qesco was supplying electricity to Quetta and 19 other districts from 220 KV Uch-Sibi Double Circuit and 132-KV Dera Ghazai Khan transmission lines while Habibullah coastal power plant was also providing electricity.

He said that replacing of big transmission towers would take some time during which Qesco would meet the power demand through load shedding as there was a difference of 60 MW in supply and demand.

At least five districts of the province were still without electricity, which were linked with National Grid through 220 KV Sibi-Guddu Double Circuit transmission line.
