KARACHI, Aug 7: The value-added textile sector has expressed concern over the fact that the government is yet to appoint a commerce minister.

The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) acting chairman Irfan Ali said in a statement that it is surprising that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is yet to decide the fate of textile ministry despite his pro-business approach.

He added that economic revival should be the first priority after law and order of any newly formed government. But no commerce minister or textile minister has been appointed so far while the export sector, particularly textile sector, has been left to suffer while all macro and micro-issues of the trade and commerce are not being addressed.

Irfan said that the government had appointed staunch bureaucrats as secretary commerce and secretary of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) who were unaware of the problems of the export sector.
