ISLAMABAD, May 23: The token hunger strike of Anjuman Mazarain Punjab (AMP) has entered eighth consecutive day on Friday. To express solidarity with the tenants’ cause, All Pakistan Alliance of Kutchi Abadis, an affiliated body of People’s Rights Movement (PRM), held a protest demonstration in Murree on Friday, says a press release issued here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, AMP President Khushi Mohammad Dola said the AMP’s movement was gaining support from many quarters, including political parties, lawyers associations and NGOs.

He said a team of lawyers along with four PPP MNAs were scheduled to visit Okara on Saturday to express solidarity with the AMP in its fight for ownership rights.

AMP Chairman Liaquat Ali said: “we are awaiting the medical report of Mohammad Amir’s postmortem, conducted in Chak 5-4/L on May 21. He clearly contradicted the Rangers’ claim that two tenant groups fought against each other due to which Amir had died. The tenants do not possess any weapons, he said, adding that ironically, a case of Amir’s death had been filed against tenant leaders.

He said the AMP’s protest would continue till all the charges against tenants were dropped and arrested tenants released.
