KARACHI, May 21: Justice Amir Muslim Hani of the Sindh High Court issued bailable warrants on Wednesday to ensure the appearance of the executive district officer (revenue) of the city district government, KDA Wing, in a civil suit on May 23.

The court will also frame a contempt charge against the official if he failed to explain his absence on Wednesday.

The EDO was summoned to appear on Wednesday morning on the last date of hearing (May 15) and was reminded of the summons on phone when he could not appear.

NOTICES ISSUED: A division bench of the Sindh High Court issued notices to the State Bank, the PIA and the Orix Leasing in a petition alleging illegal banking operations by the company.

The petition has been filed by wife of a PIA employee (Ghulam Haider) and daughter of another (Farooq Khan) through Advocate Nihal Hashmi.

It alleges that the leasing company was commissioned by the PIA to supply household goods to its employees on credit. Under the agreement, the price was to be deducted in instalments from the salaries of the employees concerned.

However, according to the petitioners, the leasing company started paying loans to the employees. The amounts were being recovered together with compound interest. The repayment instalments were being deducted from the employees’ salaries. In certain cases, the repayments were eating up big chunks of salaries, the petition alleged.

A division bank, comprising Justices Mohammad Roshan Essani and Khilji Arif Hussain, directed that notices be issued to the three respondents for a date in office.
