ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday ordered the registration of a case against former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for his alleged involvement in the Lal Masjid operation, DawnNews reported.

IHC’s Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi issued the order during the hearing of a petition filed by Haroon Rasheed, son of Lal Masjid’s Ghazi Abdul Rasheed, against Musharraf for his involvement in the killing of his father and grandmother.

During the hearing, Justice Qureshi said that Haroon Rasheed’s statement should be recorded.

The Lal Masjid operation was a 2007 government crackdown on the controversial pro-Taliban mosque in Islamabad, which ended in a bloody eight-day siege killing at least 58 Pakistani troops and seminary students.

A number of witnesses in their statements had alleged that Musharraf, then president of Pakistan, was responsible for the action.

It is very sad to read that a number of witnesses in their statements had alleged that Musharraf, then president of Pakistan, was responsible for the action. A real judge can settle this case in two days if he go through the TV talk shows, news papers and Musharraf statements of two month before this incident and one month after this incident. Everyone knows how much Musharraf was reluctant to take action and how much media was pushing him. I think this case is good to remind Pakistani nation who has very short memory actually what happened. This case will tell us the hypocrisy of media also when they took 360 degree somersault after the incident.

fida sayani Jul 12, 2013 01:05pm

Multitudes of crimes have been committed in Pakistan under Musharraf Rule. If this men goes unpunished than Pakistan has no right to call itself a Islamic Republic.

Khan Jul 12, 2013 01:39pm

The courts are releasing terrorists and filing cases against govt officials who are taking actions against these terrorist. Lal masjid episode is recorded by all channels what other proof court needs to prosecute ghazi brothers? The vendetta shown against Musharraf clearly shows the bias against Muhajirs not a single son of the soil is prosecuted along with Musharraf for any case. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was right when he warn Indian Muslims against creation of Pakistan.

Muhammad Younus Butt Jul 12, 2013 02:18pm

Only Gen (Rtd) Musharraf is not the single player in this drama.all his advisers,ministers and those who helped his must be brought before the screen and various case must be registered against all his asides also. So that the general public come to see the hidden faces of their beloved politicians in Pakistan.

Hussain Naqvi Jul 12, 2013 02:23pm

When the lion is wounded,the foxes around him attack him together with other foxes and jakals. But when he regains health then all these small sects and creature vanish. Let them make their scores at his cost. Whatever he did it was in the best. Interest of the nation. The terrorist trained by the then dictator of his time. Established HQ of the terrorists operating in Afghanistan and then West Pakistan. Though very late but action taken against the red fort saved the nation.

Ayaz Jul 12, 2013 02:59pm

Musharraf is living large in his palatial house with all the security that even the current president does not have. He does not even show up in the court.

Bajwa Jul 12, 2013 03:01pm

I wonder how IHC will react, if relative of those policemen or soldiers who got killed in Lal Mosque operation file petition against all those armed individuals hiding in mosque complex and led by Maulana Abdul Aziz and later on by Ghazi Abdul Rashid when former escaped Lal Mosque in Burqa along with his wife. Why a case against then president, when law and order is responsibility of elected govt,,,,why not against then prime minister or interior minister. Moreover Lal Masid commission has already stated that authorities were right in calling army in aid of civil power under constitution. If authorities were right in calling army in aid of civil power, then why not to register a case against Maulana Abdul Aziz who was leader of those individual creating law and order situation in capital.

Dr.P.Zaheer Jul 12, 2013 03:01pm

Doesn't this ignorant judge know that lal masjid was under the control of terrorists and not any maulanas who were terrorising the neighbourhood . They killed so many soldiers ,perhaps this judge is sympathetic to Taliban, or the reason for his decision is to get on Musharraf beating bandwagon !

Zak Jul 12, 2013 03:42pm

When the all masjid terrorists were defying and threatening and kidnapping citizens, musharaf was being criticized for not doing anything, when he did do something good, the IHC charges him for killing terrorists and their sympathizers. Then why do we ask the government to act against the Taliban, the IHC will charge them for hanging killers. Stop playing politics under the cover of legality. Musharaf is and always will be a hero to most Pakistanis. So leave our hero alone.

N.isar Jul 12, 2013 04:00pm

I think so.

Naeem Syed Jul 12, 2013 04:06pm

The Hon court should have tossed out this application. If any complaint, that defies common sense, is filed in the Hon court against anyone who is in disfavor results in a case being filed against him. Musharraf did exactly that he was supposed to do,as an Army Chief and the Head of State, to put down any armed revolution against the State. What was going on in the Lal Masjid and why were they so heavily armed that it took the Army and the police eight days to clear out the miscreants. This was the same case when they had to go after the Bugti"s for declaring the Independence of Baluchistan. These were all anti Pakistan movements and needed to be crushed. If Musharraf had done nothing today the Courts would be filing cases against him for not defending the Country. How about charging Bhutto and Yayha Khan for the Loss of east Pakistan. Has the hon. Court forgotten that we are still fighting the Taliban and Lal Masjid was not a Masjid occupied by Innocent people but a very heavily defended Taliban Fort right in the Heart of Islamababd. I say this with highest's respect that it is time the Courts got on with their Business of dispensing Justice rather than delve into revenge politics. Guaranteed the Army will come again,then maybe the roles will be reversed.

By God Damned if you do and Damned if you Don't.

Khan Jul 12, 2013 04:09pm

Whatever, he must be hanged for 3rd November Action under Article 6.

Oz Jul 12, 2013 04:17pm

The judiciary ? is this judiciary ? What laws are we referring to in this lawless country any way ?

We finally have a proper case of treason against the IHC and all the PML (N) back judicial mafia. How? Because they are standing up for terrorists in Lal Masjid. Anyone supporting terrorists, their cause and gives them voice is One of Them.

The trouble, who is going to sue the judiciary for facilitation acts of treason ?

MSA Jul 12, 2013 04:39pm

@N.isar: What are you saying and thinking?

Dr. Rahman Jul 12, 2013 04:45pm

Mr. Qureshi is a judge. He is simply doing his job. If petition is filed he must act. By admitting case judge Qureshi is not awarding guilty verdict to Mr. Musharraf. Understand the judicial system before you make ignorant comments.

MSA Jul 12, 2013 04:45pm

@Zak: It is a pity that Musharraf is in jail for doing all the good things for Pakistan, while the biggest thieves, like Zardari, Nawaz, etc., are in the highest positions of presidents and Prime Ministers, etc. It's a great shame.

MSA Jul 12, 2013 05:01pm

@Khan: From every thing that is happening in Pakistan, it is clear that Pakistan is on a course of self-destruction. There is one solution that comes to mind: join with India and make it one country again. That is the only way possible, that the thieves of Pakistan can be controlled. Every institution in Pakistan has failed: government, parliament, judiciary, and the worst of all, the people.

Rashid Jul 12, 2013 05:05pm

I'm tired of the ball????? that comes out of the Pakistani Courts La Masjid was a haven for terrorists. There were going around Islamabad trying to enforce there own law in the country. President Musharraf was a hero that day and still is. If he was still in power today who would of had the balls to crack down on the Taliban. People don't forget Taliban have forged there own version of Islam, they do and teach contrary to Islam.

Waseem Khan Jul 12, 2013 05:05pm

@fida sayani: Agreed

AJ Jul 12, 2013 05:17pm

No government is perfect and in Pakistan's case perfections is a word which got tossed out of our vocabulary since its inception. If we look at the mechanics of the scenario now playing out, Mr Sharif's government was unjustly removed but personalities differ in what they learn and redirect their efforts to better governance the 3rd time around ( which can only happen in Pakistan). Unfortunately personal vendettas and grudges have taken precedence over prioritizing of; elimination of corruption - accountability, energy shortage, security situation. How does trying one person and not the the ruling elite of the past five years, who set new benchmarks of corruption and swindling alleviate the common mans suffering? Is it fair to infer that grudges on part of the black cloaked brotherhood of the judicial elite and the personal ones of the Shariff's have converged to a planned focal point, whereas the other rats roam free under the 'muck mokao' tacit understanding? What a pity, will we ever learn?

Ram Mittal Jul 12, 2013 06:07pm

@MSA: Sorry - I don't think India wants Pakistan.

Ali Jul 12, 2013 06:23pm

By the way, what happened to Arsalan Iftikhar case? Why the honorary courts can not do anything against CJ's son?

Zak Jul 12, 2013 06:50pm

@Ram Mittal: I agree and Pakistan does not want any links to India. For us centra Asia is more valuable.

Muhammad Qadeer Jul 12, 2013 06:51pm

I think, Govt. Should make a commite for invegation of this LaL Masjid operation.

mirza Jul 12, 2013 07:17pm

Musharraf is the person who is responsible for all the mess he made. Whatsoever reason he had no rights to overthrow an elected govt. He is the power hungry person who use all tactics to stay in power as long as he could. He sold so many innocent people in exchange of dollars. He killed innocent people in lal masjid and an icon mr akbar khan bugti illegally and unjustified. He did all the unconstitunal acts. Its pay back time for him as he is not sacred cow.

pathanoo Jul 12, 2013 07:30pm

Wasn't Lal Masjid a den of terrorists which sheltered terrorists who were terrorizing and killing people, enforcing Sharia against the country's laws and then running back in to the Masjid for shelter? How can clearing up these people and shutting down the den of terrorists be a crime committed by the man who was in charge, rightly or wrongly, of the country's security? By entertaining the complaints against Musharraf on this matter particularly, the Pakistani Judges have lost even a pretense of justice or following the rule of law....if they ever had any credulity any way. By The Way, I am NO fan of Musharraf....just a fan of the TRUTH which does NOT change for any one or any reason.

Syed Ahmed Jul 12, 2013 07:33pm

Lal Masjid militants had been running a parallel administration challenging the writ of the government. Shameless Mulana Aziz staged escape wearing a burka. Musharraf's government took the right step eliminating mullah-geeri. All the witnesses are bogus. You will find thousands of witnesses against Zardari's corruption, catch him if you can?

Syed Ahmed Jul 12, 2013 07:34pm

@AJ: It is the naked truth.

Syed Ahmed Jul 12, 2013 07:36pm

@MSA: Rubbish.

Mustafa Jul 12, 2013 07:40pm

@Naeem Syed:

"The Hon court should have tossed out this application."

An Hon Court would have!! But where do we get Honorable courts??, that would require Honorable judges??

Syed Ahmed Jul 12, 2013 07:40pm

@Dr. Rahman: Mr. Qureshi could have thrown out the petition like CJ Ifthikar Chaudire did with Dr. Thair ul Qadri's petition. What do you say?

Mustafa Jul 12, 2013 07:57pm

@fida sayani:

Musharraf's biggest crime is that he was not born in Pakistan.

Shahzad Latif Jul 12, 2013 08:59pm

Another dark day in the history of Pakistan !!!

Waseem Jul 12, 2013 08:59pm

@Zak: "Musharaf is and always will be a hero to most Pakistanis. So leave our hero alone". very rightly said.

SRK Ahmed Jul 12, 2013 09:16pm

@Ram Mittal: You are right. India herself is having same problems and may be break up before anything happen to Pakistan.

Em Moosa Jul 12, 2013 09:25pm

@N.isar: What you think so?

HONEST BELIEF Jul 12, 2013 09:33pm

In Pakistan, every Agency or Organization, whether it is the Prime Minister, the Army or the President, they can all be held accountable at some forum or the other. Who is our Justice system or the Judges accountable to?? Their perks or expenditures cannot be audited, WHY?? Can someone explain why this is so?

Ayaz Jul 12, 2013 11:25pm

@MSA: Why not join Afghanistan? At least up to Attock .....

Naeem syed Jul 13, 2013 01:07am

I think that the Shariff Brothers and all their entourage believe,in fact they seemed to be convinced like the Ancient Incas that if they get their friends, the Judges to convict and hang Musharraf, the Power of this one human sacrifice will instantly do away with the Power shortages , The Taliban, The Rampant Corruption, The IMF and all the other minor and Major ills that are a headache for the PM.

By the way we see nothing of the Slap me around Son in Law of The PM. Anyone seen him around? What mischief is he up to now?

ali Jul 13, 2013 02:14am

Enough Lahore .....

Imran A. Jul 13, 2013 03:11am

I think the government should re-instate Lal masjid and give it back to the Taliban. It's not right to prosecute Musharaf and yet endorse his decision against Taliban.

muzammil ullah khan Jul 13, 2013 03:17am

What sickness !! What a court and what a judge !! Any one can approach the IHC and a case against Musharraf will be instituted by this court . It is now becoming a joke .
