I FEEL sorry to write that the people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan are living in areas filled with filth and dirt. Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, is considered to be one of the most developed cities of the country. I see a lot of filth in the ‘posh’ localities of Defence, Clifton and PECHS. It is very surprising that an area like Clifton, which comes under a cantonment, is in such bad shape, with broken roads, overflowing gutters and filth.

I see innocent young children playing in grounds full of garbage and picking throwaway litter and leftover edibles. Young boys carrying bags of filth on their bicycles are seen roaming around open vacant plots of the land to find something which can fetch them some money.

People, even educated ones, throw away their broken furniture, electronic equipment, burnt bulbs in front of their houses. Broken glasses and bulbs can hurt these children who come to pick up this filth for the sake of their bread and butter. Garbage trucks which are supposed to pick this litter are not regular.

Pakistanis visit Europe and Western countries but do not learn and care about cleanliness. Islam teaches us that cleanliness is Imaan (faith). Before praying five times, it is an obligation to wear clean clothes and wash your face, hands and feet.
