Wapda office attacked in Hangu

HANGU, May 20: A mob led by the union council Nazim, Astarzai, Kohat, attacked the office of Water and Power Development Authority and took away two transformers and power meters here on Monday evening.

About 250 residents of Astarzai town led by their Nazim Mehtab-ul-Hasan came to Wapda office in several vehicles to register their protest against the unscheduled loadshedding in their area.

But the villagers entered the local Wapda office and after ransacking it, took away two transformers and several new power meters.

The residents of Astarzai told said that they were forced to take the extreme action owing to the long unscheduled loadshedding in the area. They said that when they went to the Wapda office to register their complaint, the officials escaped from their offices as they were unable to give justification to the massive loadshedding.

But, SDO Mohammad Riaz said that there was a problem in the Mitha Khan feeder, which forced the local Wapda authorities to load management till the fault was removed.

Wapda labour union workers observed strike against the mob attack on Wapda office here on Tuesday. They announced to continue their trike till the recovery of the two transformers and power meters.

The activists of the labour union were assured by the SP Hangu of registration of FIR against the attackers and recovery of the transformers and power meters.
