BENAZIR Bhutto Medical University, Larkana, has announced an evening medical college, the first of its kind in Pakistan, without any consent from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

A test was conducted of hundreds of students for various courses and for this a fee amounting to Rs2,000 was charged.

Also advertisements for various jobs from associate professors to computer operators were published. Hundreds of candidates applied after paying a fee of Rs1,500 each.

Now, as expected, the PMDC has discouraged this evening college as it defies its rules.

Millions of rupees were deposited in the medical university’s account and all went in vain along with the candidates’ hopes.

The university will claim they have every right to cancel the said programme.

But the question is: why did the university announce an evening session without the consent of the PMDC, a programme that had to be stopped before it began? In our country, the accountability is only for the poor, and justice is only for the rich. What a pity!
