CHARSADDA, Dec 11: Charsadda union councils’ representatives took out a procession here on Monday to protest against what they called the government failure to announce a “package of incentives” for them.

A large number of councillors participated in the procession, which started from the municipal committee office and ended at the offices of Zila and Naib Nazims.

The processionists held a meeting at the Municipal Hall and formed a collective body called Mushtarika Charsadda Councillors Ittehad by merging two rival groups of councillors — the Red Bloc and the All Councillors Ittehad.

Those who attended the meeting said that under a conspiracy, they had been deprived of the benefits of the new system, which, they alleged, was being destabilized by certain elements in connivance with the bureaucracy.

The councillors lamented that no identification cards had been issued to them, and demanded the release of Zakat funds, saying that the funds must be distributed through Nazims.

Women councillors also attended the meeting.
